Spring is just around the corner but it is still flu season in Moab. It is important to adhere to the following guidelines to help keep students and staff healthy and prevent the spread of infections. Please keep your student home from school if he/she has:

• A fever >100.4. Students should be fever-free for 24 hours without the use of Tylenol or Ibuprofen before returning to school.
• A contagious illness, such as the flu
• Vomited within the past 24 hours
• Experienced diarrhea within the past 24 hours
• A body rash with itching or fever
• A diagnosis of a bacterial infection, such as bronchitis or strep throat. In such cases, keep a child home for 24 hours after starting antibiotics.

Grand County School District is in close contact on a daily basis with public health officials and local partners in monitoring and planning a community-wide response to the possibility of COVID-19 appearing in our region. With the evolving status of COVID-19, we will share the information we receive from the Department of Health.

At the March 3 special board meeting, Taryn Kay, principal of Helen M. Knight Elementary School, was appointed to be the next Superintendent for the Grand County School District, according to Board of Education President Melissa Byrd.

Grand County School District Superintendent JT Stroder has submitted his resignation effective at the end of his current contract on June 30, 2020.

GCSD is conducting a School Climate Survey the week of March 2nd for 6th-12th grade students. The survey is anonymous and parents can opt-out by providing written documentation to the appropriate school's office.

Grand County Middle School is seeking volunteers for our annual Reality Town event on March 6th from 7:30-10:30 a.m. Reality Town is a 7th-grade financial planning activity where students have an occupation, earn a paycheck, and pay bills. Volunteers work at stations to help students make decisions about housing, transportation, insurance, and other monthly expenses.

Join us on February 13th as we welcome Collin Kartchner to present on how to help our children rise above the negative effects of social media. Collin is a nationally recognized speaker and social activist, raising awareness of social media’s effects on teen mental health. Collin will speak at two student assemblies for students 5th-8th and 9th-12th during the day. In the evening, Collin will speak at a parent & community event.
