Be Aware of School Buses
In the 2024 Utah legislative session, the fine schedule has changed for vehicles that do not stop for a School Bus with flashing red lights and stop arm deployed.
Effective May 1st, 2024,
If a person gets convicted of not stopping for a School Bus with its flashing red lights and stop arm deployed.
The first offense is a Class C Misdemeanor with a minimum
$1000 fine and 10 hours of compensatory service.
The second conviction within 5 years
$2,000 fine and 20 hours of compensatory service.
The third conviction
$3,000 fine and 40 hours of compensatory service.
The Utah Legislature is sending a message, this illegal practice is serious and must be stopped. The safety of students, (our future leaders) is top priority.
Grand County School District has been in session for one week and we have had 2 vehicle violators and two bicyclists violators.
Our buses have external cameras to capture this illegal behavior.
Pay attention out there and watch for students and our School Buses on the roadways.
