Grand County School District Head Custodian Lydia Barnes is the 2019-20 Employee of the Year for the district.
Lydia was nominated as Employee of the Year by school staff and chosen by the Grand County Board of Education for “Doing a great job at keeping the facilities up to date and in good working order.”
Lydia serves as the custodian at the Grand County High School. Staff and teachers wrote in their nominations for Lydia that she is “Always on top of cleaning our rooms and making sure teachers have the resources they need to develop a safe and clean working environment.”
Staff said from the onset of the Covids-19 crisis Lydia “was on the ball before we were dismissed from school because of Covid-19. She was distributing cleaning wipes and making appearances in classrooms to delegate the importance of maintaining cleanliness.”
Lydia came to work for the Grand County School District as a custodian in 2015. Prior to relocating to Moab, Lydia lived in the San Francisco Bay area and was a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters. Lydia has been in her supervisory role at the school district since 2017.
“I love working for the school district,” Lydia said. “My crew is excellent. I appreciate all the hard work the custodians on my crew do.”
Due to the Covid-19 crisis, the district’s annual presentation and awards ceremony was cancelled. Lydia was honored on May 29 at the Grand County School District with flowers and a crystal Employee of the Year award.
